How to choose the right casino
· 6 min read
A practical checklist for licences, KYC, payout speed, bonuses and game studios, the same criteria we use in the Chipindex score.
A flashy welcome bonus is the last thing to look at. Most people who lose money at a crypto casino do it because they skipped the basics: who licensed the site, how withdrawals work, and whether the operator has a habit of stalling once the balance gets large.
Start with the licence, not the homepage
A Curaçao or Malta licence does not make a casino safe on its own, but the absence of any licence is a hard stop. Check that the licence number on the site matches a public register, and that the legal entity named in the footer is the same one holding it. If the names do not line up, walk away.
KYC policy in writing
“No KYC” should mean something specific: you can deposit, play and withdraw up to a stated limit without sending a passport. Vague promises of anonymous play often turn into a document request the first time you cash out. Read the withdrawals page, not the ads.
Payouts you can measure
Ask for a median, not a marketing slogan. Ten minutes for a Bitcoin withdrawal is different from “instant” that quietly excludes the first cash-out of the day. We track payout times as minutes so they can be compared. Anything routinely above a few hours, without a published reason, is a yellow flag.
Bonus terms before the match percentage
- Wagering on bonus plus deposit, or bonus only.
- Maximum bet while a bonus is active, usually $5 unless stated otherwise.
- Game weighting: slots at 100%, tables near zero.
- Expiry: seven days is tight, thirty is humane.
A 200% match with 50× wagering on deposit plus bonus is often worse than a smaller offer with 20× on the bonus only. Chipindex bonus pages spell those numbers out so you do not have to hunt through the T&Cs after you have already signed up.
Who actually supplies the games
Recognisable studios, Pragmatic Play, Evolution, Hacksaw, Nolimit City, are not a guarantee of fairness, but they are a sign the operator passed someone else’s compliance. A lobby full of unbranded clones and no published RTP is a different product. Prefer casinos that list providers by name.
